Stand Up and Don't Be Afraid

2 Nephi 8: 5-8

My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arm shall judge the people. The isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.
This scripture makes me think of missionary work.  As we read a lot about in the scriptures, the tribes of Israel were scattered, yet where are they?  Well all over and because of The Church of Jesus Christ being brought back to this earth through Joseph Smith, righteousness is near through missionaries and the Lord's church growing.
There are many Islands (Isles) that have people who have never received the truth and they are waiting for the truth and when they receive it, they will trust it.  You can also think of "Isles" or Islands as people who are surrounded in this world by people who are not waiting for the Lord's truth and so as missionaries go out they won't be able to reach everyone with the spirit but they have to travel through deep waters (many people) to find that one person (Isle/Island) who is waiting, and once they receive His gospel, they will trust it.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment; and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner. But my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.
It is interesting how this Isaiah uses a garment to describe how the world will pass away.  How many of us get caught up in the things of this world such as stylish clothes and things like that.  Everything will pass away, everything will go out of style, the people who you want to impress will eventually grow old and pass away, BUT choosing to follow Jesus Christ will give us something that will not pass away and that is SALVATION.  That is more important than anything else.
Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart I have written my law, fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.
This is talking to everyone is does have the gospel.  There is no or no more waiting because they have the knowledge they need to be saved.  But do you fear to stand up for that which you know to be true?  Do not be afraid, Heavenly Father loves you and will be there to comfort you.  He needs you to have courage like Nephi.
For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool. But my righteousness shall be forever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
Continuing on from verse 7, there is no need to be afraid.  They are nothing compared to God and their knowledge will not save them and even if they physically harm you, you will be saved.
Love,
